The Obelisk is an attempt to take part in the millennia-old tradition first established so well by the Egyptians. Recognizing the devolution of this monumental form over that span, this is what should be the most appropriate next step in that tradition. Like the ancient pieces, it is entirely of a single material. Like more modern examples, it is constructed of pieces and does not wish to uphold the integrity of a true monolith. It does manage an attempt to retain some sense of self-respect in it’s transparency by way of stud construction with the 8′-0″ 2×4.
